The 3:00am Club?

Sep 16, 2026
Are you part of the 3:00 a.m. club too?

This morning I found myself awake, again, in the wee hours of the morning. For some reason, my body and brain think this is a great time to both need to go to the bathroom and to race through all of the things I haven't figured out yet.

Darn brain.

And yet, I had such an inspired coaching session with a client yesterday, I recognized that my own soul was just wanting to walk through the same experience I took her through. So I had an early morning date with myself.

To give you some foundation, we all have fragmented parts of our identity within us. Younger parts of us that didn't have the tools to cope with what life was asking from us at the time.

Have you ever reacted stongly to a situation or to a certain person and afterwards you were a little baffled and didn't understand why you did it? Maybe, like me, you were even a little embarrassed that you were immature about it?

The adult in us knows better, but somehow there's a part of us that felt really strongly about it and pirated our agency in that moment. Sound familiar? Lol.

That's what I'm talking about. That's your younger parts shining in all their glory!

Often these parts are suddenly afraid and overwhelmed and they cope with those big feelings through common stress response reactions. They fight (physically or with unkind words), they run away and hide (literally, or in screens or food), they freeze and don't respond (even when they really want to), they try and control and fix things (even when they know it's not their business), or they fawn and people please (and abandon themselves) to cope with the situation.

Do you see yourself in any of those descriptions?

I do.

I see you, Little EM! Big hugs! (That's her in the picture holding the blue water balloon!)

All of these responses are ineffective. The adult us know it, but the fragmented part keeps doing it.

These little parts of us actually have amazing abilities and skills that our whole-self needs. By acknowledging them and their fears and needs and working with them intentionally, we can use the skills of integration to calm them down. In this way, we stop letting them drive the bus with their ineffective and less-mature coping skills.

The benefit? We respond from a more whole-souled place and we also get to access their strengths. We get to act like a grown-up and also intentionally benefit from the childlike gifts these parts bring into our lives!

Do you want to feel playful and light-hearted again? Do you want more laughter and joy back in your life? Wouldn't it feel good to be more spontaneous and more resilient? Or more trusting?

Part of being a Wise Woman is doing exactly this. Today I got to use my skills at 3:00am. Ideally we can use them in daytime hours and sleep more effectively. But, at least I had tools to work through what was on my mind instead of just fighting against myself and being frustrated I wasn't sleeping.

Yes, I may still be tired today, but I also feel deeply satisfied that I am more whole.

It's beautiful growth. And little by little it makes a huge difference. That's how lasting growth happens!

Are you craving that kind of growth and healing?

Are you ready to be more whole in how you show up in your life and relationships?

Our fall cohort for the Wise Woman Growth Groups starts the second week of October. We have an afternoon and an evening group where you can grow in a supportive and authentic group of women who are also seeking this same powerful change.

You can check out the details about the program and the class times here.

You can also check out this blog post and enjoy a conversation I had with one of my younger parts. It's totally worth it if you've ever felt that feisty independence and rebelliousness flare within you when your car beeps at you to put your seatbelt on!

Grace be with you today, my dear sister! Life can be challenging. AND you are not alone!
